If an urgent appointment is imminent, patients can often use video consultation hours as an alternative, the association recommends. These are possible for all complaints – even if the patient has not previously been treated by the doctor. It is best to ask your doctor by phone.

Many doctors are currently contacting their patients themselves to reschedule such appointments. If your doctor offers further check-ups, you should telephone him to discuss whether it is advisable to reschedule the appointment.

In the event of possible symptoms of SARS-CoV-2, only see a doctor in an emergency

Patients with symptoms that could indicate Covid 19 disease – such as cough, fever, difficulty breathing, fatigue, loss of appetite – should only consult a doctor in an emergency.

The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) advises in this case: It is imperative that you first contact your doctor by telephone in order to protect yourself and others from being infected with SARS-CoV-2. If necessary, the practice will give you a hint over the phone to an office responsible for your region for further clarification.

But also for people without symptoms: When visiting a doctor, pay attention to the precautionary and hygiene measures recommended by the Robert Koch Institute to protect yourself and others from being infected with the new coronavirus: Keep a minimum distance of 1.5 from your fellow human beings Meters, wash your hands thoroughly with soap if you come from outside, sneeze and cough into the crook of your arm and throw disposable tissues in the trash immediately after use.

In certain cases, doctors can temporarily issue a certificate of incapacity for work by telephone. After taking a telephone history, the AU can be valid for up to two weeks and be sent by post. According to the KBV, this applies to patients with diseases of the upper respiratory tract that show mild symptoms as well as for patients with diseases of the upper respiratory tract that show mild symptoms and who are also suspected of being infected with the virus. The regulation is initially valid until June 23rd.

The dentist is only obliged to provide treatment in emergencies

Dentists are currently allowed to cancel check-up appointments and treatments such as teeth cleaning due to the corona pandemic. It is different in acute cases.

"In a dental emergency situation, i.e. if the patient is threatened with health damage if he does not receive dental help immediately, the dentist is obliged to provide assistance", informs the German Dental Association.

What applies to routine hospital examinations?

That depends on the patient’s underlying disease. Your clinic or the treating doctor will inform you whether an inpatient clarification is currently necessary or can be postponed.

Seniors and people with previous illnesses should bear this in mind

In particular, senior citizens and people with previous illnesses who are at risk for a severe course of Covid-19 should rather cancel preventive examinations and non-urgent treatments after consulting a doctor by telephone.

The general check-up, for example, can easily be done at a later point in time. However, under no circumstances should you forego planned operations and inpatient check-ups without consulting a doctor.

Keeping your dentist appointment from the comfort of your home? That works in Munich Schwabing. Because there an orthodontic practice treats customers via video call.

But many do not dare to, are afraid of getting infected at the dentist or on the street. There is an orthodontics in Munich Schwabing, which is why it has switched to video calls – at least in part.

Supplementary dental insurance is particularly worthwhile for those with statutory health insurance if they want expensive dentures. Interested parties should take care early on and compare services.

Whether crown, bridge, implant or inlay: dentures are expensive. People with statutory health insurance often have to pay part of the costs out of their own pocket – depending on the federal state, up to 1,228 euros for dentures, as statistics from the Barmer health insurance company show.

Statutory health insurance (GKV) pays insured persons a fixed allowance – but usually only covers half of the costs for so-called standard care.

For whom the additional dental insurance is worthwhile

"For everyone who is satisfied with the standard benefits of the GKV, such as a metal crown without a veneer, supplementary dental insurance is often not worthwhile", explains Elke Weidenbach from the consumer advice center in North Rhine-Westphalia. If you do not have additional insurance and want the health insurance benefits, you should inform your dentist of this.

Supplementary dental insurance is particularly worthwhile for people who value high-quality dentures, explains René Neumann from the Association of Private Health Insurance. "With the policy, patients with statutory health insurance can reduce their own contribution and cover up to 100 percent"says Neumann.

These requirements must be met

In order for the contract to come about at all or for the insured person to pay the regular contribution, the dentist should not have classified any tooth as requiring treatment.

That is why Weidenbach advises: "Ideally, protection should exist by around mid-30s." She refers to statistics according to which dentures are often only necessary from mid-30s to early 40s.

If you want to take out additional dental insurance, you usually have to answer a few health questions. "Consumers should answer the questions correctly, otherwise they risk their insurance cover", explains Weidenbach.

Compare prices and services carefully

The amount of the contribution depends, among other things, on the age of entry of the insured person, but also on the benefits and the condition of the teeth. It is therefore not possible to provide a flat-rate information on how expensive such a policy is. There are also contracts for which the contribution increases with age.

Before concluding a contract, consumers should consider exactly which benefits the additional dental insurance should cover. In addition to the cost of dentures, some tariffs also cover the costs of professional teeth cleaning or orthodontics. It is worth comparing the services and prices.

Various options for assuming costs

There are also various options for assuming costs. "For example, the insured person is reimbursed a flat rate, around 30 percent of the total invoice amount", explains Neumann. The flat rate is usually limited to a maximum of 80 or 90 percent of the invoice amount. The proportion of other cost carriers is included, i.e. the GKV proportion.

Another option: The insured person receives a flat-rate percentage of the remaining costs after the statutory health insurance has paid in advance.

The insurance should always reimburse 2.3 times the rate of the maximum rates of the fee schedule for dentists (GOZ). "A limit of up to the maximum rate of the GOZ, 3.5 times the rate, is usually sufficient"says Weidenbach.

In addition, the contract should not limit the amount of the annual reimbursement. Because if this is around a maximum of 10,000 euros, the policyholder is left with a larger dental treatment at costs that exceed this limit.

He had a toothache and wanted to numb it with alcohol: a truck driver first had to surrender his driver’s license, but then got help from the police.

A truck driver in Upper Franconia tried to numb his severe toothache with alcohol. The 39-year-old drank so much that he drove snake lines with his 40-ton truck on Autobahn 9 near Gefrees in the Bayreuth district, as the police announced on Thursday. Officials withdrew him from circulation and found a good 2.5 per mil in an initial test.

Saarbrücken (dpa / tmn) – Around every tenth German citizen does not regularly go to the dentist for preventive examinations. This is shown by a representative Forsa survey on behalf of the insurer Cosmos Direkt.

11 percent of those surveyed said they went to a practice less than every two years or only if they had acute dental problems. 5 percent only go once every two years.

The vast majority, however, take the check-up appointments at the recommended intervals: Almost half (45 percent) therefore visit the dentist once a year. 38 percent are even more than exemplary and, according to their own statements, make an appointment about every six months. 1003 people aged 18 and over were surveyed in September 2020.

Of the people who had not yet gone to the dentist for preventive care in 2020, 28 percent said that they had not yet wanted to go to the practice because of the corona pandemic.

If you have enough space, it is best to set up your baby’s changing area with a changing table. The practical piece of furniture not only offers a lot of storage space, but can also be used sensibly when your child has outgrown the diaper age.

Lots of space for the baby and for changing utensils – the changing table

A changing table is a traditional dresser with a larger attachment with side edges that prevent your baby from accidentally falling off. The special thing about a changing table is that its height is optimally matched to its intended use. A changing table allows you to change your baby without having to bend over or lean forward too far.

In addition, a changing table offers significantly more storage space in the nursery compared to other solutions for the changing area. And this is necessary, because diapers, towels, powder and other changing utensils are increasing. It is also particularly convenient to have the baby’s clothes within easy reach of the changing area. The storage space of a changing table is ideal for this.

Long-term usage options for the changing table

What is particularly practical with most changing dressers is that the changing attachment can be removed and the piece of furniture can later be used as a normal dresser in the children’s room.
